The Dix, canular "orgasmique" de Prince Paul

Après la fiction, le canular. Après Barrett Rude Jr. et Quincy Brown, voici Mesdames et Messieurs, The Dix !!! La légende raconte que ce groupe de R&B fut sauvé de l’oubli par Prince Paul. C'est en piochant dans un lot de vieux vinyls qu’il avait acheté, qu'il découvrit The Dix, un obscur groupe ayant enregistré quelques albums entre 1957 et le début des 70’s. Prince Paul prit alors contact avec ses membres pour leur proposer de remixer certains de leurs titres afin de leur offrir une reconnaissance, même tardive. Projet auquel ils prêtèrent leur soutien... N'en croyez pas un mot.

The Art of Picking Up Women est donc un canular du facétieux Prince Paul, blague potache partant du nom phallique d’un groupe imaginaire. The Dix n’ont jamais existé, sorte de Spinal Tap R&B. Même leur quartier d'origine est un lieu qui n'existe pas : Compton, New York ! Mais comme si un faux disque ne suffisait pas, Prince Paul et ses compères (Mr. Len, Mr. Dead et Don Newkirk) lui ont adjoint un mockumentary pour présenter et revisiter la carrière des Dix. Où Prince Paul interprète Orgynius, un des membres du groupe !

Point n'est besoin de suivre la carrière de Prince Paul et connaître son don pour surprendre et être où on ne l'attend pas, multipliant les projets les plus variés (Gravediggaz, Handsome Boy Modeling School, Baby Elephant...), et point n'est besoin d'être très perspicace pour que quelque chose nous mette la puce à l'oreille... The Dix came onto the scene in 1957 as The Bangkoks with original members Orgynius, Peter O’Tool, Tro John, and John Handcock. The Bangkoks boasted a top ten hit called "Love Biscuit" which was the anthem of every blue-lighted house party in 1962. The Bangkoks reassembled as the Dix in 1965 with the addition of new group members Dik Gracin and the Jonsun Brothers thus creating a brand new sound that could only be described as "Orgasmic". The Dix do more than just hit the spot, their cataclysmic rhythms and harmonies combined with their explosive dance moves makes The Dix one of the best groups to grace the recording industry. Almost 40 years after the tragic break up of The Dix, hip-hop pioneer and musicologist Prince Paul (De La Soul, Handsome Boy Modeling School) unearths The Dix lost recording The Art of Picking Up Women via! Comme le résumait bien un certain Todd E. Jones, "the Dix are singing soul music with a hip-hop energy". Personnellement, avec leur son qu'on ne pourrait décrire que comme "orgasmique" (sic), je dirais que les Dix sont "3 feet high and rising".
