Reste-t-il encore assez de place à Ninja de Die Antwoord ?

Il y a quelques mois, nous traduisions une interview que Ninja, leader du groupe sud-africain Die Antwoord, avait accordé au magazine Pitchfork. Il y évoquait notamment le court-métrage qu'ils s'apprêtaient à tourner avec Harmony Korine et n'hésitait pas à confier, gros malin, qu'il s'en était fait tatouer le titre, Wat Kyk Jy, sur le pénis.

Le film va être prochainement présenté au public à Austin, dans le cadre du festival SXSW. Il dure seize minutes et il y est question de gangsters en chaise-roulante, armés de pistolets et fumant de gros joints, dans une ambiance semble-t-il très white trash. Ou très zef, comme le dirait Ninja. Et c'est justement le couple Ninja-Yo-Landi qui incarne ces gangsters vivant aux marges de la civilisation*. D'Harmony Korine, réalisateur de films tordus, scénariste pour Larry Clark de Kids et Ken Parks, on pouvait effectivement s'attendre à ce genre d'ambiance déjantée.

Pas de chance pour Ninja, plutôt que Wat Kyk Jy, Harmony Korine a finalement appelé son film Umshini Wam. Nous aurions aimé voir la tête de Ninja au moment où il découvrait que le titre avait changé. L'histoire ne dit pas s'il a rajouté cette nouvelle inscription à côté de la première. Ou s'il lui restait de la place pour le faire !

They live in the outskirts of civilization, they shoot guns for fun, smoke massive joints, and sleep in the woods. They don't have any bling to show for their gangsta cred, but the world deserves to know who they are. They're tramps, and their wheels are starting to fall off. Ninja become despondent over their vagabond existence, but Yo Landi won't let him give up. What ensues is straight up gangsta mayhem, the realist of the real, true gangsta shit".
